Rylov Arkady Alexandrovich
(1870-1939)

Rylov Arkady Alexandrovich, a Russian graphic artist and painter, was born in 1870 in the village of Istobenskoe . He studied at the Central School of Technical Drawing from 1888 to 1891 and at the Academy of Arts from 1894 to 1897 under A. I. Kuindzhi. In 1898 he travelled about Europe with a group of students. He lived and worked in Petersburg. In 1906 he exhibited his works the Paris Autumn Salon. He became a member of the Academy in 1915. He taught at the School of Drawing from 1902 to 1918 and at the Academy of Arts from 1918 to 1929. He was a member of the World of Art, of the Kuindzhi Memorial Society (he was its head from 1925 to 1930). Rylov was Kuindzhi’s follower and his technique of painting was similar to Kuindzhi’s style. Rylov died in 1939 in Leningrad.
