Nikanor Greigor’evich Chernetsov

(1804-1879)

Nikanor Greigor’evich Chernetsov, the academic of landscape painting, was born in 1804 in the town of Lukha. The artist studied at the Academy of Arts in Petersburg under M. Vorobiev. In 1832 Chernetsov was awarded the title of academic for his painting “The View of Tiflis”. He travelled a lot with his brother. In 1844-1845 he published the album, which was entitled “Palestine. The views are painted from nature by the academics Gregory and Nikanor Chernetsov in 1842-1843”. In 1846 Nikanor Chernetsov went to Italy. The artist died on January 11, 1879.
